As a member of flight class 59A. I was stationed at Hondo in the summer of 1957. At that time we flew T-34's and T-28's not the AT-6 and L-5's shown in the pictures dated 1958. And in 1957 we moved from the old wooden barracks into 2 man brick apartments which were still there in the 1990's, the last time I visited Hondo, converted into a detention facility.

I was at Hondo in early '52 but, alas, washed out and ended up back at Randolph and then to beautiful downtown Okinawa. We flew T6s (or was it the other way around?) but soon after I left they switched to T28s, an aircraft far more up-to-date for its time. Socially, we dated girls from town and I think many of them were looking to marry a cadet so as to escape Hondo. Is anyone around from the 1952 era of Hondo?

I went through Hondo in the Spring and Summer of 1954 (class 55-J). We started in the PA-18 (Super Cub) then to the T-6. T-28 training started at Laredo, prior to the T-33 training. Sure was good to see all those photos of the place!
